“Dean of Saving Salvage stands over a Volkswagen Golf R engine inside his van.”

Dismantling a car requires a deft hand, but understanding the components with value and which to repurpose adds an exciting aspect to the process. Whether it’s the transmission, seats or even electrical components, car breakers diligently remove parts from salvaged vehicles, extracting as much value as possible.

In today’s article, we report on our time with automotive influencer Dean, better known as Saving Salvage, and his recent car-breaking session. Sourcing parts for his latest project, Dean selected Copart UK’s BreakerBid4U service for all his salvage needs.

For those unfamiliar with BreakerBid4U, Copart connects buyers with salvage vehicles without requiring customers to have a license. Copart handles the breaker bidding process and provides a location for successful bidders to conduct their car breaking.

BreakerBid4U is a parts-only service that aims to simplify car breaking. As part of this breaker bidding service, Copart provides the option to transport vehicles to a nearby breaking facility, a feature Saving Salvage used to facilitate the breaking project featured in this article.

Since he was fifteen, Dean has been a professional automotive breaker. Following his father’s footsteps, Dean developed an interest in cars from a young age and ever since entering the motor trade, he’s never looked back.

Inspired by other influencers, Dean branded his YouTube channel as ‘Saving Salvage’ and filmed his car projects, quickly growing an online following. Currently, the Saving Salvage YouTube channel has an impressive 121K Subscribers, a fan-favourite automotive social media influencer.

As the name suggests, the Saving Salvage YouTube channel revamps salvage vehicles and gives them new life. Saving Salvage often has several projects on the go at any given time, and, this time, he turned to BreakerBid4U as he began his next. As Dean started on his newest project, we got in touch and had a chance to meet at Copart’s Sandy Site.

“Long row of various Copart salvage vehicles.”

Strapped with high visibility vests, our team arrived at Copart’s Sandy Site, where we had arranged to meet Saving Salvage. Dean came in a van with various tools and equipment, ready to fill it with today’s haul. Once checked in, Copart showed Dean his bay for the day. From there, he got to work.

As part of the breaking session, Copart provided Bay access between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday – Friday (excluding UK Bank Holidays), giving Dean plenty of time to strip as many parts as he desired.

“Salvaged navy-blue Volkswagen Golf R with body damage and missing wheels.”

Dean informed us that today’s car-breaking session focused on a 2015 Volkswagen Golf R engine. However, he was free to remove any parts he could take away and was not limited to just the engine.

During our time at the Sandy Site, staff members helped extract the engine of the Golf R. It’s worth noting that, if required, staff were also there to help remove the gearbox or rear axle at no additional cost.

Saving Salvage made full use of the breaking session, taking as much time as needed to remove any necessary parts. Once satisfied he’d removed everything of worth, including a dashboard, steering wheel and other miscellaneous components, we reconvened with Dean to ask him a few questions about how he found the BreakerBid4U service.

"The engine extracted from a Volkswagen Golf R tied to a palette in a van.”

Dean was already familiar with Copart auctions, having made his first salvage vehicle purchase from Copart approximately five years ago. With this experience, Dean selected Copart’s breaker bidding process to win a Volkswagen Golf R for far less than it would’ve cost to buy the engine second-hand.

With the time and space allowed to carry out the breaking process, Dean valued the room given to work. Furthermore, Dean also appreciated the site staff’s help removing the vehicle’s engine and helping get it in his van. Based on Dean’s feedback, his car-breaking experience with BreakerBid4U was positive, and one he would do again.
