Winter is fast approaching, bringing along with it its dark, cold mornings, frozen windscreens and icy roads. All of this adding to your inconvenience, winter is a terrible season for all car users, unless you’re prepared!
Here are some tips you get you and your car prepared for the cold severe weather;
Anti-freeze – make sure you check your coolant level before the winter months; the coolant should be at the significant level and add some anti-freeze to protect the engine from getting damaged which is costly!
Battery – One of the most common problems during winter is the battery. An old battery will struggle to work in the cold weather so if your car battery is old, make sure you get it checked and replaced so that you don’t experience any unnecessary inconvenience.
Lights – Regularly check and clean your lights so you can be seen and see while it is dark. This includes fog, head and lamp lights. Make sure you have a couple of spare bulbs just in case one should blow.
Tyres – Check your tyre condition and whether the tread is suitable for the winter conditions. Also, you should check that tyre pressure is at optimum level. The only thing between you and the road surface is tyres, so it is crucial that you have adequate tread on your car, not to mention it is a legal requirement in the UK.
Screen wash – get yourself a screen wash which is made for cold weathers. It needs to contain anti-freeze to ensure the water doesn’t freeze and cause damage to the washer pump or tank.
Wiper blades – if your wiper blades are damaged, make sure you replace them. Having wiper blades that are worn can mean that your vision is seriously impaired when driving in bad weather.
