If you’re a regular Category B Buyer, you’ll know that CAT B’s are a great cost-effective solution when you require multiple used parts. However, if you’re new to the accident damaged market, you might not fully understand what is required to purchase one and you could be missing out on a time and money saving solution. Let us explain…
What are CAT B Vehicles and why should I consider buying one?
Great question! A Category B vehicle, described by the ABI code is an extensively damaged vehicle which has been written off by its insurance company and cannot return to the road under any circumstances.
So, it’s a lost cause?
No, not completely. Whilst the entirety of the vehicle cannot return to the road, it contains multiple salvageable parts which can be stripped from the vehicle and used to repair other cars which are returning to the road, such as salvage categories C, D, S and N or used vehicles in need of replacement parts.
The vehicle shell must be crushed once it has been stripped of the desired parts.
How can I buy a CAT B vehicle?
In order to buy a CAT B vehicle, you will need to hold the required set of licences, meet the criteria set out by the Environment Agency and provide proof of the vehicle's destruction. If you have not purchased a CAT B car before this can be an expensive and time-consuming but entirely necessary, process. For more information, visit our Buying Category B’s page.
Is there another way to purchase these vehicle types?
Yes, using our dedicated BreakerBid4U (BB4U) service you can purchase the CAT B vehicles* you want and let us take care of the rest saving you any unnecessary hassle.
How does BreakerBid4U work?
You will provide our BB4U team with your selected Lot number maximum bid amount and we will bid on your behalf during the preliminary bid period; prior to the live auction. If the bid wins, a breaker session will be arranged at one of our licensed breaker facilities in Sandwich, York or Inverkeithing.
When you arrived at your scheduled breaking session, your car will be prepared and ready for you to remove the parts you need. Once you have finished, we will dispose of the shell and issue the Certificate of Destruction.
This saves you the need to acquire any licences or additional documentation.
For more information, visit our BreakerBid4U page and if you require any further information, please don’t hesitate to contact our BB4U team at BB4U.Sandwich@copart.com.
Want to get started right now?
Perfect, start searching our extensive range of CAT B vehicles now and when you’re ready, place your bid using our BB4U bidding form.
*This service excludes the breaking of HGV’s, plant and agricultural vehicles.
