You may have been hearing a lot about GDPR, but what exactly is it, and what does it mean for you as a Copart Member?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a regulation which intends to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union. It comes into effect in the UK from 25th May 2018, replacing the Data Protection Act 1998.
The new regulation aims to give control back to individuals, providing them with more say over what companies can do with their personal data and how it can be used.
How does GDPR affect me as a Copart Member?
Under the new GDPR regulation, we are required to gain consent for all personal data collected from our Members. If we don’t receive your consent, we will be unable to contact you with information, news and offers which you might find of interest.
What do I need to do?
We will need all our Members to give their consent to Copart to use their personal data for sending out marketing communications, by ‘opting in’ to the specific channels that they wish to receive information from us about our products and services.
How do I opt in?
The first phase of the portal’s development will be launched in May 2018, giving you access to our Marketing Preference Centre, where you will be able to select how you wish to receive marketing communications from us about our products and services.
You’ll be able to access this quickly and easily by logging into your Member Area on the Copart website and clicking on My Account>Account Settings.
It’s important that you familiarise yourself with the Marketing Preference Centre, so that you are confident in finding your way around it as we continue to roll out more functionalities in the portal, further enabling you to manage your personal information accordingly.
We’ll be giving you more information about the portal and how to opt in to our marketing communications at the time GDPR comes into effect.
